2008 Annual Meeting Draws Crowd
Butterflies and Spidermen Emerge

An artist with her pumpkin
October 25.  About 100 members and supporters attended the Coalition's 2008 Annual Meeting, held at Holy Rosary Church Hall.  Chair Dinah Bolivar and her Events Committee organized a fun event for children and adults alike, with displays, pumpkin painting and other art activities, cider, donuts, and apples fresh from an orchard.

Children waited patiently in line (a first, said witnesses!) to have their faces painted by artists Heidi Crow and Jeana Sager.

Coalition outgoing President Jennifer Meyer and incoming President Stephen Gucciardo gave a brief update of Coalition activities.  A fuller report for 2008 and the decade is available online.

Thank you to volunteers Jan, Joanne, Isaac, Heidi, Jeana, David, Rey, to Angela and Holy Rosary, and to all others who pitched in.  We're also very grateful to our sponsors; their logos are below and on our web site.  Please support the businesses and organizations that support the Coalition!

For more photos of the event, see our Facebook album(Yes, we're catering to the younger, hipper crowd with Facebook!)

Alert: Where's the Public Interest?
Ask our Senators to Protect Waterfront Access

While organizations like the Coalition and Connect the Parks (see below) work to improve public access to our waterfronts, the New Jersey Assembly just passed legislation that gives all sorts of property owners a pass on providing public access. It prohibits the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) from mandating public access on property adjacent to critical infrastructure or from requiring the purchase or improvement of off-site locations.  The ostensible reasons are for "safety" and "security."  Haven't we heard those reasons given before for bad legislation?

The bill (S-1921) is now in the Senate.  We are providing sample letters for you to mail or fax to key representatives.  Simply download, sign, and send; click on links below.  Or use the phone or fax numbers given.  If you have little time, contact the senators first.
